Honors
To be an Honors student, both University Honors Requirements and Departmental Honors Requirements must be met.
University Honors Requirements

Departmental Honors Requirements
All the University and the following Departmental Honors Requirements must be met in order for graduation with honors:
- GPA of at least a 3.5 in courses taken to satisfy major requirements.
- At least 3 credits must be completed at the 5XXX level in the Department after a total of 60 credits have been completed
- Span 3972V: Honors Graduation Seminar must be completed as the final coursework
Important Information for All Honors Students
- Study Abroad experience does not count towards honors credits within the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
- The DUS is the honors representative for the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and all questions should be directed to him/her or to the CLA honors department.
- Honors students who want to graduate with summa cum laude status must form a 3 member thesis review committee prior to taking Span 3972V. The summa committee is chaired automatically by the faculty member teaching the course. The other two members must be
- a faculty member within the Department of Spanish and Portuguese
- and a faculty member in another department who is proficient in reading Spanish and/or Portuguese.
